Why We Do It
The world’s largest investment challenge
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions to Net Zero by 2050 will require a fundamental transformation of the global economy.
Our mission is to raise capital for solutions that will make the transition to Net Zero possible.
Tackling this challenge is our investment strategy
-
About USD 100 trillion in investments are needed to de-carbonise the world’s energy systems.
We invest in the technologies and sectors with the greatest growth potential throughout the Net Zero transition.
-
The global economy needs to reduce net annual greenhouse emissions from 50 Gt of CO2e today to zero by 2050.
We invest in technologies and sectors with the greatest potential to de-carbonise the global economy.
Reaching the Paris Goals
Our starting point is the Paris Agreement and its goal to hold the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and to limit the temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
In line with the Paris Agreement, we seek to contribute to making finance flows consistent with a pathway towards Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions.
Sustainable Development
The UN has set 17 goals to achieve sustainable development by 2030. These include access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all, and combatting climate change and its impacts.
Investments aimed at reducing global greenhouse gas emissions to Net Zero by 2050 directly contribute to Sustainable Development Goals 7 (affordable and clean energy) and 13 (climate action), and support other Goals.
